2009 Super Derby logo

We revealed the 2009 Super Derby logo yesterday. The $750,000 race is scheduled for Saturday, September 19. Hopefully we can attract a good horse or three.

In the Durkin video he discusses the differences in his preparation for a big race compared to an average race. How does your preparation for a race such as the Super Derby differ from everyday Louisiana Downs races?

Eric, every race is different. Spending hours preparing for a $5,000 Claimer is not using time effectively. But, if there’s a funky horse name, or a fun horse name, spending a little extra time can be worthwhile.

Generally, the bigger the race, the more time. Everyday races it’s usually a review of the names in the morning, and then 10 minutes of memorization before the race call.
